AN OFF DAY AT JERSEY JOE WALCOTT’S TRAINING CAMP

Camden Courier-Post – June 10, 1948

On the days Jersey Joe Walcott doesn’t box for his forthcoming return bout with heavyweight champion Joe Louis there’s little activity at his Grenloch Park training camp. Yesterday was one of Walcott‘s off days and the camp personnel took it easy.

In the group are, sitting, left to right, Curtis “Hatchman” Sheppard, one of Walcott‘s sparing partners, Walcott, and Billy Norris, another sparmate. Standing, left to right are: Dan Florio, 1 trainer; Paddy Cream, Walcott‘s brother, Joe Holmes, Walcott‘s chauffeur, Cliff Dyes, another Walcott sparmate; Felix Bocchicchio, Walcott‘s financial adviser; Joey Allen, assistant trainer; Nick Bocchicchio, camp secretary; Dave Schockley, camp cook, and Bob Cream, another of Walcott‘s brothers. Austin Johnson, another of Walcott‘s sparmates, was visiting his home in Atlantic City when the picture was taken.
